Start the installer using the runinstaller.sh script (or runinstaller)

I did not provide any feedback info as this is only for demonstration purposes. It's reccomended to provide your feedback details to be able to obtain the CPU patch info and critical bug info from Oracle.

This can be done in one go - Create and configure database - or like I did - Install database software only, with the option to create a database at a later stage, using dbca.

Database Vault does not install by default. Additionally select this option if you're licensed to make use of the Vault software:

I've ignored most of the pre-reqs as per the readme notes, as this is only for demonstration purposes:

Run the above mentioned root scripts in a seperate SSH session:

[root@prod1 stage]# /u01/opt/app/oraInventory/orainstRoot.sh

Changing permissions of /u01/opt/app/oraInventory.

Adding read,write permissions for group.

Removing read,write,execute permissions for world.

Changing groupname of /u01/opt/app/oraInventory to dba.

The execution of the script is complete.

[root@prod1 stage]# /u01/opt/app/oracle/product/11.2/root.sh

Running Oracle 11g root.sh script...

The following environment variables are set as:

    ORACLE_OWNER= oracle

    ORACLE_HOME=  /u01/opt/app/oracle/product/11.2

Enter the full pathname of the local bin directory: [/usr/local/bin]:

   Copying dbhome to /usr/local/bin ...

   Copying oraenv to /usr/local/bin ...

   Copying coraenv to /usr/local/bin ...

Creating /etc/oratab file...

Entries will be added to the /etc/oratab file as needed by

Database Configuration Assistant when a database is created

Finished running generic part of root.sh script.

Now product-specific root actions will be performed.

Finished product-specific root actions.

[root@prod1 stage]#

Database Creation:

Start the databaase installation from the $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory, using the "dbca" executable (Database Creation Assistant)

The above SID can be any name up to 8 characters, not starting with a numeric value

When you already have a Grid Control instalaltion, you can point this installation to the URL. In my scenario I did not have one, and selected the option to configure  a dbconsole:

Should you not already have a listener running, you need to follow the below steps to create/configure one, and start it before re-attempting, or proceeding with the database creation:

[oracle@prod1 bin]$ ./netca

Oracle Net Services Configuration:

Configuring Listener:MYNE

Listener configuration complete.

Oracle Net Listener Startup:

    Running Listener Control:

      /u01/opt/app/oracle/product/11.2/bin/lsnrctl start MYNE

    Listener Control complete.

    Listener started successfully.

Oracle Net Services configuration successful. The exit code is 0

[oracle@prod1 bin]$

Stop and Start the listener to activate the "Database Services" configured just now:

[oracle@prod1 bin]$ ./lsnrctl stop MYNE
